Most cases resolve before a jury verdict. Some end up resolved even after a jury verdict.

As a skilled trial attorney, Michael is constantly looking for the best outcome for his clients–whether it is through a jury or less formal methods of dispute resolution.

Michael has represented hundreds of clients in mediation and arbitration, both plaintiffs and defendants in a wide range of disputes. His goal in alternative dispute resolution (ADR) is the same as that in trial-to put the client in the best possible position regardless of the mechanism. Sometimes, the reduced costs and reduced risk of ADR is a better fit for the client and the case. No two cases are the same and our job is to help clients navigate the legal system to make the best choice in their case.

More recently, Michael has been asked to be a neutral mediator and arbitrator to help parties resolve their own cases.

In recognition of his commitment to fairly evaluating disputes, the Oregon State Bar appointed Michael to its panel of fee arbitrators in 2014. In 2015, the Oregon Supreme Court appointed Michael as a member of the disciplinary board to help decide cases in which lawyers are accused of ethical violations. In 2019, Michael was appointed to the panels of court approved arbitrators for Multnomah and Clackamas counties.

The Oregon Supreme Court appointed Michael as a Judge Pro Tem for the Multnomah County Circuit Court in 2021. This means that for certain types hearings and cases in Multnomah County, Michael will be specially assigned as the acting judge.
